Everything again was in English and Spanish. This was where the Mess made friends with the British couple. I looked up and she was dragging them up to another floor and all around the different exhibits. </span></span>

<span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'"><span style="font-size: 11pt">After leaving the museum we headed to the main level to watch a 10 minute film on Panama. In the museum I learned that the Black population of Panama was due to Caribbean workers coming to the country to help build the Panama canal. The majority were from Barbados and the next major countries were Trinidad and Jamaica. Currently Blacks are 14% of the Panamanian population.</span></span>

<span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'"><span style="font-size: 11pt">After we left the Canal we headed to the Amador Causeway which is a man made causeway that connects 4 small islands that were used by the US military.



I had planned on taking the Mess out here because there is a branch of the Smithsonian off the Causeway that has lots of interactive children’s activities. After leaving the Causeway we headed to Casco Viejo, or the Old Quarters. It is an older part of the town that still resembles its 19th century past. It reminded me of being in the French Quarter in New Orleans. It’s architecture is influenced by Spain, France, and Italy. On the way to this part of town we passed the projects. They were no joke. I couldn’t take pictures b/c sitting in the van for this amount of time was too much for the Miss and most of my time was trying to rein her in so that the other people on the tour did not miss anything. Because I couldn’t take my pics, I must admit that I had an attitude. I tried to let it go, but it’s hard for me to see and picture and not take it. I was seeing so many.

After we left Casco Viejo we headed over to a craft market and brought gifts. One piece of art that is beautiful and you can see all over Panama is the materials made by the Kuna Indians. I was also searching for a poncho b/c we were going on a tour of an Embera Indian village the next day and a raincoat was suggested. I should explain that we arrived in Panama during their rainy season. It rained everyday, a couple of times a day, during our trip. Because the weather is hot, the area did not stay wet long. Once we left the craft market we headed back to the hotel. I thanked Robert so much. We talked a lot on the side and he was very good with the Miss. The Miss liked Robert and hoped that he was going to take us on our tour the next day.</span></span>

After we got back to the room we chilled out for a bit. Then I wanted us to get up and look for a raincoat. I headed back down to the front desk of the hotel and was asking for prices. I planned on going back to Via España and looking for a raincoat for the both of us. Then I wanted to go to the Causeway and the Casco Viejo. I asked the front desk manager for fair prices to get to each place. She told me what I should pay and told me that I should be fine since we look Panamanain. I was like-Ohhhhhh. That’s why everybody starts talking to me like that. We don’t look like tourist. I likes that!

We head out the door and head to way to many shops and can’t find one raincoat. Umbrellas for days but no raincoats. We walked for like an hour. On the way back the Miss is saying she’s thirsty. We head back and enter into a gourmet Italian ice cream shop that had home made icecream. It looked so good, but I stuck with the sorbet. I tasted the Miss’s icecream. DIVINE. I had to take another scoop, but was worried about what gastrointestinal difficulties I would have later if I kept it up. We go to the back and ask for the Miss’ favorite word in Spanish. Bano (bathroom). After that we head back out to the street to hail a taxi to the Causeway.

Now I’m trying to tell the Miss to be quiet so I can do this I’m a Panamanian deal. As long as they don’t ask too many questions I should be OK. Well the Mess can’t be quiet. She was just running her mouth. I still got the deal that I wanted and I talked a little to the driver in Spanish as we headed out to the Causeway. The plan was to hit the Smithsonian museum and then walk around the Causeway. The Causeway is about 4 miles long and has tree lined walkway that gives you a wonderful vista of the city. Many people walk and bike in the area. After we left the Causeway were were get into an other cab and head back over to Casco Viejo. While there we would look for some dinner. One cool thing about Panama was that the cabs are cheap. Around the city we never paid more the 2 bucks. When we went out to the Causeway it was like 3-4 dollars. To get over to Casco Viejo, I believe cost us 2 bucks. </span> </span>

I looked at the sign as we were going past this morning and I thought that it closed at 6. Nope that’s on Saturday. Me and the Miss just walked around and took pictures.

A name of one of the islands off of Panama. I believe that Panama has over 100 islands off of it. Not too sure about that fact though.</span></span>
