The next shots are of the various areas of the Temple of Heaven... A deeply spiritual place that brings many to daily in hopes to make it to heaven at then end of life...


These are some of the Burning Urns for offerings at high holidays:



This is the "Echo Wall" a very loud, but interesting place. It surrounds one of the temples and the purpose is to go and shout your desires and wishes into the wall and they echo back to you and lodge deep into your core. The chinese are all about good fortune and making your own destiny. Needless to say, Likkle Mo had a few things to yell into the wall. I now know that her love and desires are "LOVE - PEACE - FAMILY" She yelled that over and over and over almost a trance for close to 5 minutes... she definitely "felt" something there.

Four days in and around Beijing was enough for us... it was too nutty with all of the Olympic shenanigans and scary security...

I got us overnight train tickets to Xian to go see the Terracotta Warriors... it was an experience I'll never forget -the train that is!! I have a new appreciation for what cattle go through in their lifetime, and it was just scary enough trying to get Likkle Mo and myself on that train without getting trampled to death, that for the remainder of our journey, we flew between cities... NO MORE TRAINS IN CHINA!!

Thanks goodness I sprung for a private berth, and once we got on the train and to our cabin we were fine for the next 16 hours... but getting on - all I can say is holey moley - I am very appreciative for where and how I live here in Canada!!

There was not much else in Xian that I desired to see after arriving there. I found it to be a very dirty and unkempt old city. It was full of filth and didn't "feel" that safe to me. So we checked into our filthy, gross accomodation and decided to get to find a place to get a plane ticket for the next morning, and then we found the #306 bus (thank you Roughguide China guidebook), travelled about an hour and a bit to the site...
The 4 excavation sites are all still being worked, and it is simply amazing how they have unearthed these warriors, mostly broken into many pieces and are working to put them all back together... it is very dark to preserve the materials, but hopefully you get the gist of the army that is still being unearthed...
and just for some perspective, the horses are all life sized or maybe even a little bigger, and each "warrior" stands between 6 - 8 feet tall. And it is true what you read about them - each one is different entirely - there was no mould to make these things... they all have a different face, body, clothes, boots, etc.

Later we will take you to Chengdu - which despite the earthquake, and the fact that we were there on an plane waiting for take off for another 6.0 "tremmor" ended up being our favorite place in China!!

But for now, I have to go to the park with Likkle Mo and get some fresh air and sunshine!!

Mi glad fi see seh yuh went to the 'good part' of the Wall. Caw mi know seh you'd enjoy that better. Now mi spend 3 hours climbing up and down an mi was fully mash up. Now you did 6 hours? Aye Sah.

Di fry kakaroach pon tick look overcooked. How yuh did a 'try' di next vendor fi dat.

Mi always had di impression di teracotta warior dem is outta door an inna di country somewhere. From the pikcha and story it look seh it inna di city and enclosed inna one building. Hmm.

How was that? Was it worth going all the way there or you'd skip it next time?

The journey to the warriors was hell on wheels Magic!!
When we did get to Xian, everything dat could go wrong did... the hostel we did book online when we were in Beijing was &quot;closed down&quot; when we did reach after our 16 hour overnight train.... we walked about trying to find another accomodation.. by 11 a.m we found one 3 star which looked okay from the outside, but....
By this time me and likkle mo were looking for a travel agency to book flights out the next day - the city was disgusting!! We walked over piles after pile of vomit, and it was smoky and smoggy and awful!! You know me magic, I don't expect much, and I have travelled enough off the beaten path places to grin and bear a lot - likkle Mo too! But we decided to book overpriced flight to get out EARLY the next morning, and then we took local transit (read: old diesel stinky bus #306) about an hour and a half to the &quot;site&quot;... it IS in the country, after passing 2 sets of the biggest, smoggiest, nuclear power plants I have ever seen in my life!!
The 4 &quot;exhibition halls&quot; are nothing more than big tin covered, open air, not well lit buildings, almost like a tin tent of sorts, but HUGE! I think it was to save the integrity of the excavation.

On the bus back to the city, we dubbed the bus the &quot;barf bus&quot; You kiterally had to sit with your feet up on the seats - it really was gross!

I have heard raves about this site, but I suppose those reviews are from people who take all inclusive tours, and don't stay in crappy hotels and travel with the local transit.

It was awesome to see - it really was, but if I were to recommend it, I probably wouldn't if you are squamish - the same could be said for the whole city and area.

It was the LEAST favorite part of our journey... we got out of Dodge ASAP! That being said, I can cross it off the list now!!

Place sound dutty fi real. And knowing the general hygine habbits in China I can imagine what you mean.

But like you said, it's on that list and need to cross out one day.
