Compray I am loving the pics you have here.. I went to school with a few Boddens and do recall a Boddentown but was not aware of how 'big' they were on the island.

Yes Keyer, they are very big all over the Island. They own several acreage of land on the Island and there's mention of the family just about everywhere you turn.

In the accompanying remarks to his survey of the Caymanas, in 1773, George Gauld wrote, &quot;The island was originally settled by one of Oliver Cromwell’s soldiers, who had been at the taking of Jamaica. Old Isaac Bodden , his grand son, a native of the island, now upwards of 70 years of age, remembers when there were only 5 families……. &quot;

If the Patriarch was one of Oliver Cromwell’s soldiers who captured Jamaica from the Spaniards in 1655, the Boddens may have come to Cayman via Jamaica. There is support for this.
The Jamaican Parish Records list the marriages, baptisms, and deaths of various Jamaican Boddens or Bowdens throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
There is a William Bowden , Member of the Assembly for St. Thomas 1664, included in &quot;Official and Other Personages of Jamaica from 1655 to 1790&quot;, Walter A. Feurtado (Kingston, 1896).
In her will of September 8, 1791, Mary Bodden of the Parish of Portland, Jamaica, left property to her great nieces and nephew, living in the Caimanos.

But, regardless of their origins, the Boddens remained, and became one of the leading families. By the time of the first census in 1802, there were 15 Boddens listed as heads of households, out of a total of 88. They were also, by marriage, generously represented in other families.

On one of the trips in town to do something regarding the new church building, I was hungry so naturally we had to stop at the infamous Tortuga rum factory.

I got my patty and pineapple drink and we were off again. No I didn't buy any rum, I still have the bottle that I difficulty opening well over a year ago.

Thanks Pepper...I thought I was going to see a greater similarity to Jamaica. Granted, I didn't most of the Island. I'm hoping to be a tourist during the days when I return next month.

The Minister was feeling a bit down about us not getting the opportunity to do &quot;fun stuff&quot; so she decided to take me for an early morning swim.



Nice little spot but man the water was rough.



The waves tossed me straight out of the water.





There was a wedding that morning and the beautiful bride gave me permission to take her pic.
