Florida, The Upper Keys

The last two months have been exhausting. I needed a break badly. I put in for two vacation days and figured I would stay home and relax for a couple of days. But as days approached, I knew that I needed to vacate the premisis. If I stayed home, I would only end up working on items on my long to-do list.

I first thought of going to Negril, but decided that I didn't want to go through the trouble of airline travel, immigration and customs.

The good thing about living in Florida is, you can gas up the car, drive for an hour or two and be on a lovely vacation getaway. So where should I go...Orlando, Naples, South Beach, Vero.....nah I should do the next best thing to going to Negril...go to the Keys.

I did some research on the upper keys. Didn't want to drive all the way to Key West. Besides I wanted to lay around and do nothing, not quite the Key West scene. Key Largo, to busy. Marathon, maybe, Islamorada, looked good too.

Checked out hotels, rates, availabity and restaurants. Islamorada won out. Called early Sunday morning, booked the hotel, packed a bag and drove south.

It was just what the doctor ordered. I did nothing for the two days I was there. I slept, I ate, I napped, I sat in the sun, I watched TV and I read.

Well actually I did do one activity while I was there. I took a leisurely drive to Marathon and had lunch there.

Chesapeak Resort. Great hotel, very friendly staff.

I was in Islamorada...about 1 3/4 hours from Lauderdale.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Keys!!

Spent 9 days with friends on Cudjoe Key a few (many) years back.
They're always a good choice when yer lookin for laid back.

By the way... did you know that South Florida &amp; The Keys are the Kitty Litter Capitol of The World?
That's where they get the majority of clay for cat litter.
