trivia: you were in good company at that Comfort Inn, it's where the Wailers also stay when they are in town...

c-dude that's the doors to the basement. these are original colonial buildings, built back in the day, before lectricity. that's where the &quot;icebox&quot; would have been. all these narrow little cobblstone streets were built in horse-drawn carriage days, (that's why they are too narrow to accomodate modern vehicular contrivances). The horse-carriages would come round and deliver the blocks of ice, as well as other provisions, thru those doors dung to the cool cool basement for storage. back in those days there was no access to the basement from inside the home.

omg dave the <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">Duck Tour!!! </span></span>i totally spaced on telling you about this, it's the most ridiculous hilarious fun - it's a tour thru the old city historic area, where one of the stops is the A.M.E. Baptist church on 5th st.; one of the stops on the Underground Railroad. (and Marilyn, now you know how my sensiblities were shaped as a child growing up in this particular place in the world.) When done the city tour, the bus folds up its wheels, rolls right into the river and becomes a boat! tour ends with a lovely boat trip on the river.... HUGE fun! aw man i can't believe i didn't make sure you did this!

astute observation there dave i may not &quot;love&quot; the concrete jungle but as cities goe Philly is a VERY cool one - they've designated many of the original colonial structures as 'historical landmarks', and really kept them up, and have built <span style="font-style: italic">around</span> them instead of knockin em down. many you see in these pics are the original construction from colonial times. many new businesses just move into the old buildings, which makes for some very odd CVS stores and banks. but we love our old buildings and it shows in just how well they are preserved and kept up.

it's a testament to good high-quality old-fashioned master brickwork and stonemasonry. which is, of course, what built this city, as the first arrivals were working-class immigrants.

so glad you enjoyed yourselves and especially the RiverDeck, it's one of our favorite places to play gigs.... that stage is where they have the 'inside' band in the evenings. it's soooo nice on a summer evening with steelband out on the deck and live reggae on that inside stage...
