Bahamas

My birthday is around the bend and i want to be out of here...

Had no time to plan a big trip and thinking of a quick outing... AA has cheap deals to Nassau-Bahamas. Is the country worth it?

If I go it would be a budgeted trip but I'm not one to be holed up on hotel grounds. I like to go explore the environs...

I've traveled to Nassau on getaway vacations in 2008 and 2009. I enjoyed it there though I went reluctantly thinking it was a tourist trap . It is kinda, but plenty of local stuff to do.

If you want the flexibility to walk around the town and not depend on taxis, I would stay in Nassau proper. Do not stay on Paradise Island . For the two visits I stayed at the British Colonial Hilton which is in the heart of Nassau and has a nice little beach, great pool, great bar, but lousy food. A very good restaurant is across the street and much cheaper. But the rooms are very nice and were recently upgraded. The hotel is a hub of Bahamian activity - conferences, weddings, etc. - so the lobby area is quite busy. I could easily walk to all the Nassau sights - Potter's Cay, Fort Fincastle, old buildings, and the National Gallery of Art.

The room rate is not so cheap though but call them and make a deal. They're all hurting now.

I will be going to the Bahamas for a short birthday treat.

The past year I missed my major escapade to a far distant land. Nah mek it happen dis year so mi start put major planning in place. For now, Bahamas will be a quick jaunt.

Although I don't care for Bahamas, I have used it more than once as a convenient get-a-way. I figure, I am out of the country and I can get there in a very short space of time. Besides, duty free shopping is always a nice thing.

agree about the duty free shopping.....always good!

the only place I can do that here is at the airport if flying out of EU.....

I have been to Nassau one year ago. No doubt, &quot;British Colonial Hilton&quot; is really a worthwhile place to stay. It has ideal location, close to the bus stops and downtown area. Spotless rooms, quiet atmosphere, hospitable staff and well maintained private beach make it to more valuable for stay.
