We woke up early today. We were going to catch the train to Innsbruck, Austria via Geneva (There would be a stop in Zurich). Being Jamaican I know us being up early does not necessary mean we are going to get there on time. My friend was not ready (you know us Jamaicans). We left the house in a “mad dash” to get to Geneva where we encountered traffic about a mile from the train station. My friend came up with plan B. She stopped the car next to a cab and said something to cab driver in French. We jumped in the cab and quickly transferred our luggage. Cabs had their own lane in Switzerland. It was like a speed lane. The cab driver tried to get us there on time but we were still late. We missed the train.
The next train was an hour later. I was not too worried. The way we had planned our schedule we could accommodate missing the first train on each leg. The next train would arrive an hour later. We would still be able to catch our connecting train in Zurich. We went up to the platform and my friend was there. She was not sure we got on the train so she continued to the station. She waited with us till the train came.
It was a great scenic ride to Zurich. We arrived at the Zurich Station 30 minutes before the train to Innsbruck was to arrive. We waited and no train came. It was not 15 minutes after the train was to arrived. My wife walked over to the train information booth. She came to tell us that we missed the train as they changed the platform. The man at the information booth told her this happens all the time and all travelers know that you watch the “schedule board”. The next train would be in 2 hours. We took the time to eat in Zurich. It was very expensive.
Back at the train station we watched the “schedule board” . We caught the train and was off to Innsbruck. The view was stunning as there was a large lake long the way.
When we arrived in Innsbruck we did not know how what direction our hotel was. We knew it was close. There were policemen outside the train station. We asked and the pointed us in the right direction. The hotel was less than 5 minutes away. Check in was smooth. The manager was nice. It is not the fanciest place but it was sufficient to get a good night’s sleep.
After checking the room out we walked around the town. We found a little Italian restaurant where we ate outdoors. There was another outdoor restaurant close by that was blasting music. They were playing Madonna. Next they started playing Bob Marley. What happened next was amazing and showed how big Bob Marley is. The waiters, the servers & restaurant patron were singing along. After dinner we walked around some more. We were drawn to an outdoor theatre. People were watching a movie on a big screen. It was free. There was quite a crowd there. It seemed like an old movie. The audience was engrossed. We walked back to the hotel. We had WIFI in the room so I used Skype on my iPhone to call relatives back home.
