Wow! Fantastic! Been to Kenya and India (and Sri Lanka by boat), 3 months travel each when I was footloose and fancy-free!

Both amazing countries! India will blow your mind, like going to another planet! I had a terrible culture shock coming back to the West...

You must go to Lamu when you're in Kenya, fabulous island to hang out, car-less, fabulous houses in town you can rent, or stay in a rooftop hotel, saw locals who looked Indonesian there, and Africans with blue eyes.
Turkana is also amazing, other-worldly (that's where the Leakeys did their anthropological digs).

And Twiga beach is great, south of Mombasa (ferry over the river and catch the bus), you can pitch your tent there! Right on the ocean, it's bliss! The overland trucks stop there for a rest after coming down from UK.
My sister also based herself there for 5 months!
It's all fabulous really! Masai Mara, Samburu, the men will pop your eyes in all their finery! They're beautiful too, real eye-candy!

Nairobi a.k.a.Nairobbery! You'll be fine, but don't wander around at night! Thorntree Hotel is the place to hang out there, the terrace cafe, with the original Thorn Tree notice board (LP forum), all the overlanders hang out there and browse the notices, you could find yourself with a group going to Tanzania or South Africa for instance! Always interesting peeps to meet there. I actually met a guy in Kenya that had cycled there from London, and 2 Dutch guys on motorbikes. Oh, I've heard Uganda is one of the most beautiful in Africa, would love to go to the Ruwenzoris(sp?), bet you'll go there!

If you want any info, gis a shout, where are you going in India? I was in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Madurai (TN) has an amazing temple you can climb to the top of, and rented a house on Kovalam Beach (K) which is amazing, so laid back, but hotels there now I think (like all those places, Negril, Goa, Ibiza, Pipa Brazil, Nuweiba etc.the hippies discover it and hang out cos it's so chill and then the Hiltons move in!!).

The back waters of Kerala are also great to travel around by boat, stopping off for curry lunch on the riverbank eaten off a banana leaf...

Well, back to reality! We leave for Mali on Friday!! Via Casablanca! Better get me skates on then!!

I say the same thing!!

Big Yee Haa to all these destinations!! I so much hope to be able to turn off the Travel Channel and peel the couch off my butt, and start filling up my own passport with some stamps other than only Jamaica.

now - for me ~

I MUST get an extra long weekend in to see Seveen in Jacksonville!! and with that visit, I hope to seen some of &quot;the old South&quot; .... Savannah, GA, and other spots in that region of the country. We have been chatting about this for a couple years now, I think this is THE YEAR!

next ... hmm - I should take Bwoy back to England, as I said earlier. He should get there so see his family ~ reconnect with them. while I had a really bad patch with my x-in-laws ... they realized how very wrong they were ~ and that past is the past ... so - I should think about going back too. England is a lovely country, and my x-father in law used to be such a wonderful tour guide ...

a possible mini trip to Jamaica ... maybe late June/July

another destination on my list of desires ... Italy ~ to my friends Bed &amp; Breakfast &amp; vineyard. My current &quot;Dream Trip&quot;

well jamaica is off my list for this year of course no one believes that

miami - whenever the bashment occurs down there
charleston/isle of palm - cousin's wedding
san francisco bay area - go visit relatives
dc - take my son to see white house and all that jazz - may time it with the dedication of the new MLK statue
the UK has been calling me - i lived there for a minute and want to go back - not sure if this will happen this year tho'
