Thanks Ms. Exced, JMiss, Bandi, Tuffstuff and SandiF! If you put enough clothes on you simply do not get cold. However, it is dangerous to a point. I also wear a fur hat and warm scarf. If you wear a warm hat it is 90% of the game because loads of body heat escapes out the top of your head!

The hands is another thing. Like Bandanna said, I already have problems with my hands from years of working abuse, so I have to be careful with them. My fingers were getting mighty sore towards the end of the incoming ship but I was just too damn excited about the whole scenario to care. I've been doing this for years without frostibte, but...

I got bit on Monday. Yesterda I went to Gander Mountain and bought some really nice NorthFace Glacier polar tech fleece gloves with rubber padded fingers, hopefully I will be able to work my camera while wearing them with a liner.

The gloves feel so nice, I don't want to take them off, even in the house. It has been since Monday and they no turn black yet so I'm prolly OK cept they are going to hurt for months!

This is the scene that caused it!




The ship that was leaving port in the fog won Daily Duluth Photo for today! (that is it on the right headed to Michgan) and you can see the next one coming...Yesterday I saw 3 ships coming in and I kept driving but now that I have new gloves I might go try them out for a spin!

Nobody pays for the frostbite but me, in the form of ouch! I still can't believe it happened but it did! <span style="font-style: italic">ow ow ow ow</span> So, next stop, some of those hand warmer thingies to store in the glove box. I should order a case of them or something, it looks like I'm gonna need one!

I was telling bossman today that I felt like a crack addict. I am taking different routes into town so I cannot see ships coming in from afar and won't be tempted to go running back down there.

I'm going to get the hand warmer thingies but the sea steam effects are over for now, the water is colder now so the steam is farther out in the lake.

I have some frozen water falls pics here somewhere...and sea steam sunrise. Morning will be good for those!

my truck broke down Fort Frances Ontario once -it was -47 and it wasnt fun because it was only me laying underneath it at 2 am to make the repair

Funny you should say that H_O..There was a time I was not real fond of this weather too, that was when I was driving truck for a living and even though I spent the majority of the day inside the truck...when it is 40 and 50 below, having to go in and out all day sucked the life out of me.

I had heard about this before but had never actually seen it so I made plans to meet a friend in Drummond Wi for the day. Drummond is only 45 minutes or so from home down a desolate road with nothing but trees. I saw 4 cars and at least 20 dear in the 25 mile stretch of that road on a Saturday. My kind of roads...

Enter the town of Drummond, and Big Bear Country where this annual event is held.



When I went to see this spectacle, I knew it would be fun and that there would be crashes, but it still took me a few minutes to get used to laughing at people falling down. But that is the reality of this whole adventure! The people fall down, a LOT!

Isn't it great that there is a place where it is acceptable to fall off your bar stool!

Such as this woman, she fell several times.



But walked away laughing along with everyone else! I imagine some of the racers plan their racing stools for a whole year in anticipation for the big day.



Craziness prevails! Part of the trick is getting down the hill, but that is just one small part.

They get going pretty fast and have a very short landing area, so that is where most of the action is. Crash city!

There were many close finishes



and some not so close finishes. The racers are pushed off the hill by a team mate, and that made a lot of difference.



Making it over the finish line is a cause for celebration! You can see she is already preparing to ditch the stool once she crosses the line



She had a fantastic dismount. A lot of the pics in this thread are of the not so good dismounts and crashes, but it's OK to laugh, everyone else was! That, is what the day was about, laughing.



For example, this guy lost his footing while jumping off his stool. This is unfortunate for him, as the other guy was right behind him, they can neither steer nor stop.



I don't have to tell you what happened next, do I? here, I'll show you!

it was 16 °F (-9°C) and I don't know what this guy was doing in shorts, but I heard on warmer years some of the racers dress up in costumes.



Now, who in their right mind would go down a hill on a bar stool on ski's? Not me, not even in my wildest days, I don't think.

These two? Not so much. The Viking hat guy was oblivious as to what was about to happen behind him



What was that? The guy behind him just tipped right over!

Things were going badly for this guy in the Jamaica Bobsled Team TShirt and fake dreads right off the bat. Or maybe it was a she, it was hard to tell!

Craziness prevailed throughout the day. There were 39 racers competing in 2 at a time heats, so several trips were made by some
