Great photos once again Compray! You are a regular globe trotter.
I'm scared of that vulture though. I had no idea they were so big. What in the world!!! That thing is huge
Got into Nairobi late evening. Checked into the hotel and found a place to get something to eat.
Next day would be a free day for us to do whatever we would like. I decided to get some material for my mom, sister and myself of course as well as souvenirs for the folks who helped to send me on the is awesome trip.
Downtown Nairobi from my hotel room
Hilton
Notice the people and vehicles co-existing on the roads. I found it amazing how people and vehicles moved together. There are some places with traffic lights but they are not obeyed. Red does not necessarily mean stop.
After our day in Nairobi, it was time to head to the airport for our departure home. Bitter sweet moment as I really enjoyed my stay in Africa and met some wonderful new family members. I originally named this report, "Kissed by Africa" because I truly felt that Africa embraced me and got very intimate. In spite of the poverty, there is something wonderful about that continent and the people.
I left knowing I would go back in the near future. The invitations are pouring in but the timing is not right...however as soon as I am able to, I'll be going back.
Got to the airport and found out that our flight was delayed. Not good because I was so sick. I kept going from hot to cold and trembling like crazy. Every join was in pain and I could hardly walk but I kept telling myself that I would be home the next day. I needed to get home.
I finally arrived in Toronto the following day, got pulled over by customs because I was returning from Nairobi. I think the girl felt sorry for me after a while because I was so sick. She allowed me to go without charging me for the items she claimed I should have declared. My son was there in time to pick me up, went home, went to bed and that was it.
I spent 3 months travelling around Kenya in these local buses, called Matatus. They travel all over Kenya, the whole of Africa in fact.
You go in the morning (7 - 8 a.m.) and the vehicle leaves when it's filled up, usually by 9 - to an amount of passengers which would have the police stopping you here - even chickens travel on it (on the roof where the luggage is stashed).
Usually takes the whole day - depending on where you're going - with stops along the way, for lunch too at an African roadside restaurant.
With great African music out of the speakers and always friendly people travelling along it's a great way to see the country and really get to know it.
Kenya also has a railway line from Nairobi to Mombasa, I took the night train, old colonial type, wooden carriages and a dining car! (with yummy curry, loads of Indians live in Kenya). When the sun comes up outside Mombasa, it's also great to watch the landscape go by.
I had the luck to see Mount Kilimanjaro out of the plane window (and hitchhiked around Mount Kenya LOL with a great Australian woman I met who was travelling overland through Africa on her own ).

LOL..thanks Tulip. I've been around. I will try to post pics from some other places I've been. The majority of the trips I take are for ministry purposes and I usually don't take too many pictures outside of the services.
there's Nairobi National Park on the outskirts of Nairobi where I was taken immediately from the airport by the guy who picked me up when I landed (friend of my sister's working on an environmental project there - Nairobi is full of NGOs, non-governmental agencies, and their 4 wheel drives).
It's a great park, and Africa savannah in miniature, there was a crowd of vultures hanging around a carcass, quite an amazing sight.......(and especially just off the plane!).
But it's a great place to go, takes only a couple of hours when you're in Nairobi.
