Cleveland, OH...

Had the chance to spend a weekend in the city this past October and looked forward to it for a number of reasons. The last time I was there was about 10 years ago, and I really loved it then, so it was with much anticipation that I was hoping to revisit some of the places I had been, and to see new ones.

Unfortunately, on this particular weekend it was COLD, even for a Canadian, and being downtown by the lake meant feeling the chill in all its glory. That certainly limited outdoor opportunities, but the pictures below captured a bit of what we were able to see in and around the area.

The thing that really struck me about the city was the cleanliness which really reminded me of parts of Toronto. The city's founder, Moses Cleveland, would have been proud.



And of course, in the heart of a city is at least one place of worship, and here was no different.

This bell was just about in front of the Church, which interestingly, was right across the road from the main shopping mall. Makes one wonder what happens directly after Sunday service, or if the sermon is a bit too long [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

This pic is from a monument that was under renovation, and was located on the south east side across from the Shopping Mall. There was nothing to say what the monument was, but if any boardite knows what it is, sure would appreciate knowing.



Below, I can't recall what this building was (I think it housed a bank), but I loved the color.

As stated earlier, inside the mall was much bigger than how it looked on the outside and hopefully the pictures will capture some of that.

Because the city of Cleveland houses the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, there were symbolic guitars just about everywhere.

Thank you! I really enjoyed Cleveland's downtown core, and a nice Caribbean restaurant - DJ and all - with one of the most sociable waiters I've ever met. The only downside, if one could call it that, was that the city was as dead as a cemetery &lt;no pun intended&gt; on Sunday morning.

It's what you make of it.
Sometimes it's better if it's not crowded, especially if you're taking pictures and don't want nobody to spoil the shot.

Hong Kong is a fun city in a beautiful setting, but the shear crowds you have to battle every step of the way is just a hassle. You can't walk down the sidewalk without bumping into 20 people. And trying getting on the subway when it arrives and people fall out as soon as the doors open. They need to move some people from Hong Kong to Cleveland it seems, nuh?

I have family just outside of Cleveland and I visit every year but I never really get into the city. I'll ask my aunt about the memorial you referred to.

I went to the mall that you had pictures of, the guitars are cool. Did you see the fountain that flows in time to the music? </span> </span>

I agree; my mentioning it being 'dead' was more of an observation than it was a complaint [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif[/img] It reminded me very much of Calgary, Alberta (Canada) when I was there a couple years ago. I much rather the 'purer' pictures without the distractions in the background, so from that perspective, I didn't mind.
