There sure is a lot more to the city than hills and corn (not that I saw any of either) [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif[/img] Next time you visit, spend a couple hours on foot in the downtown core and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I hear the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is a very interesting place to check out.

Thanks CG. I think the close-up view actually flatters the real thing, but it was nice nevertheless and when it caught my eye, I really liked what I saw. The corridor itself reminded me more of a hotel than the entrance / exit to a shopping mall.

I moved to OH 12 years ago and I find it a very interesting state, very different depending where you are. The cities...Cincy is like the south, accents and all, Columbus very midwest, Cleveland has a very northeastern feel, I remember seeing a hot dog cart on the street and feeling I'd come home (I'm from NYC). The southern and eastern part of the state is mountainous, or at least foothilly, the Appalachians are just to the east and SE. There is some serious country down there, hollers and tiny towns and coal mining, all of it. Beautiful. The western part is mostly flat with cornfield after cornfield.. The southwest...hilly, southern feeling. The north coast has that lake that looks like an ocean.

Where i live i can drive 3 minutes before I get to country complete with farms and cows and pigs, or I can drive 30 minutes and be in a large city with all the stuff - ballet, opera, theater, museums, major zoo, great restaurants, live music, etc.

Life is not bad here.

I did not go to Cincy in either of my two times in Ohio, and I would be very interested in seeing a bit of the country. Thanks for the geographic preview. The plan is to go back to Cleveland when the weather is warmer, and just maybe we'll get a chance to see some of the rest of the State.

Despite being around TO, I have never been to the Ontario Science Center. My curiosity however was kindled to visit the Great Lakes Science Center, one of America's largest interactive science museums. Maybe next time...

The Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Again, the temptation to visit was great but we had just about frozen our butts off by this time.

One of the things I love to do - but which I don't do enough of - is walking. Whenever I go somewhere "new", discovering what is around me is first and foremost, and this time was no different. We took a 'discover tour' around several city blocks and really enjoyed it. The next set of pictures capture some of what we saw.

This is a portion of an area I believe is known as "The Flats". (Knowledgeable boardites can correct me if I am wrong.)



Below, I thought this was a ferry of some sort (it was taken from a distance), but found out later that it was Cleveland's favorite cruise dining ship. Had I known then, chances are good we would have checked it out.

This pavilion - just about sitting on the lake - would have been used in much warmer times.

As mentioned before, there were 'guitars' everywhere. I thought this lighted one was really beautiful against the dark night.

That's the Flats. Used to be a big bar-nightlife area, not so much anymore except right by the amphitheater you took a photo of...there's a good brewery/restaurant next door and some other nightlife that is still pretty lively, or was a month or so ago when I was last there.

That amphitheater has changed names so many times...I've seen several shows there, sound is great and the view too.

Thanks ohliz. The area around the Flats wasn't exactly a beehive of activity when we were there. Juding from how dressed some patrons were, there seem to have been a formal event at the Restaurant/Brewery, but then again, maybe formal wear is the standard there. Maybe the night life started much later [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif[/img]

Hi CEW this is a pleasant surprise! I'm a Torontonian but lived in the Cleveland area for 4 years back in the mid 90's. My husband is from a town south of Cleveland and we thought it would be great to raise the kids there. It was, but a new job offer brought us back to Toronto in 1997. We still love Cleveland and visit every year. We were thinking of moving to the Dayton area a few months ago to accept a job offer but decided to wait...Thanks for the pics - nice to see someone else from TO visiting Cleveland. Did you get to Case Western University campus? They have a building there that is designed by one of those architects that is so popular now, the name escapes me, but the building is really unique...I believe it is the Faculty of business. If I find a website with pic of that building I'll post it. Also in terms of neighborhoods and architecture Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights are also great for sightseeing...you may already know that given that you're a return visitor.
