Re the statue in the middle, I don't remember [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] However, I did come across the November 17, 1967 Time Magazine issue that reported Stokes' mayoral win. He was also on the cover of that issue (pic below, from Times website). You can read the article here if you are so inclined. A very interesting piece.

The pic below is that of a statue that adorns the Carl B. Stokes' courthouse. It is the Cleveland Venus, a 37 foot tall, 11.5 ton bronze sculpture created by Ohio artist Jim Dine.



It is said that this is the artist's variation of the Venus de Milo.

Another view of the bridge 'over' the area known as the Flats.



Below is the statue churchgirl asked about. I can't recall seeing the name of it anywhere at the time, so if knowledgeable boardites can fill in the blanks, that would be great! This was located a stone's throw across from the Cleveland Convention Center.
