There is a boat??? no sah mi nevva know - anyway it was ashort getaway so no time for boats - plus I am waaay down the other end of India lol

I now heard - from a friend who's going next week, 3 week flight-only for 450 euris from Amsterdam! - the boat now goes from some obscure place in South India to Colombo...
so not at the shortest points anymore, like when I did it....to Rameswaram, southernmost tip of India, with the temple on the beach and rainbow-coloured sand..


I've also heard several opinions that now is the time to visit, after the civil war that took place and before the prices go sky-high....(with India being in the BRIC countries, lots of Indians going there, for honeymoon and such).

It really is a magical island - sunrise and sunset on each east/west coast, mainly Buddhist but Christian, Hindu and Muslim pockets, amazing food, beaches and nature to die for!,cheap travel and lovely people..

And was at a Devil Dance one night - they still deal with natural causes for illness....
the nearest I can describe it as Voodoo, drumming and a woman in trance. (she'd had several miscarriages).

450 euro from Amsterdam is a deal. From my location in the US, a trip to Sri Lanka would be over $2000. Sounds like an interesting country to visit.

I want to read the report but it's hard. I have a lot of friends who lost jobs, houses &amp; marriages because someone on the outskirts of Mumbai is now doing the work for what amounts to $2 per hour. I know I shouldn't feel soh but I do.

Tell us more and why you think someone on the outskirts of Mumbai is responsible for the demise of your friends. Perhaps in another thread...

perhaps milo is talking about cheaper customer service representatives based in india causing loss of similar jobs in canada.

in which case, i think the hard feelings ought to be directed to the company seeking to increase its profit margins.

the ice skating was fun. i'll need another round tho, still cant just go on the ice without falling down, have to hold on to something.

ETA - hope i'm not mistaking milo's comments, and hope christmas is good to him and his friends, too, despite their misfortune.

Yes, ladies, my bad feelings are totally misdirected. Like I siaid, I know I shouldn't feel like I do. It's just that seeing the name India or anything to do with India makes me feel down right now.

i watched a show over the weekend about BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and india is not holding up
