Good marnin Rebel! Yep, it's warmer in Alaska right now! I have quite a few friends who have moved up there over the years and none of them has come back. From Fairbanks to Sitka, but it isn't really a stretch from here. Not that many years ago, most of December & January were like this for the most part, weeks of well below zero and deep freeze.

Marnin Nina! Thanks, it WAS cold but a good time nonetheless. No tripods or manual settings, no time for that, it's shoot and run, bring extra batteries cause they don't last very long in this stuff!

Blue ice has been elusive these past few years, it's just been to warm. It's what I was searching for on Sunday when I took that trip to Herbster &amp; Cornucopia when I ran into the horrendous ice blowing off the lake. What a disappointment that was. But yesterday at Little Girls Point on Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Lake Superior's south shores did not disappoint.

I hit pay dirt! Waves and waves of blue ice in every shade imaginable! The photos don't do it justice, it's like standing on giant diamonds as they sparkle in the cold sunlight.

It's still cold, -20's to -30's below wind chill!



Waves and waves of beautiful blue ice!



You must tread carefully here, it is very slippery!




The icy waves in so many shades of blue were much taller than I.







Next on to Saxon Harbor Marina. soon come...

Saxon Harbor marina is on the Wisconsin side of the state line. The Montreal river separates the two states. I always wondered why the Upper Peninsula was part of Michigan instead of Wisconsin, after all, it is attached to Wisconsin and not the rest of Mi! It's the river that makes the border.

Ok, now that we've got that settled, we've come from Little Girls Point. I haven't seen another car and all is right in my world. I've stayed on the beautiful blue ice as long as I could stand it, satisfied that my search of a few years now is finally successful.

On the way to Saxon Harbor I pass a huge heard of deer standing in a clearing on the side of the road, but I figure they'll be there on my way back and on my drivers side window and I won't have to get out of the car. I'm starting to feel lazy and I have other stops I want to make and it's getting late, so I keep on moving towards shore...



The blue house on the corner is still there, with it's window blades adding protection from the elements. I've had many dreams of being in such a house, now I wonder if it is this one! I've only been here one otehr time, but it feels so familiar...









Brave souls out there ice fishing. I wonder how they know how far it is safe to go out!



When they open the road past this spot, I'll be right there!



Do I have time to make it to Bayfield in time for sunset? Well, the deer were gone from the little clearing, so I didn't waste any time there!

Very beautiful Nanook. Something I wouldn't mind seeing while sipping on a hot cup of tea from the inside of a warm cabin.
