Personally I have no problem with your observations of NYC. IMO, trip reports often show the "good side" of things but everywhere has the good, the bad, and the ugly. Sometimes trip reports can interest a person to go visit that place, but if there are things a visitor should know, then it is not a negative for that to be stated. It really doesn't take away from the experience(s) of the person doing the report.

sorry you missed my point.. no one owns any place. nor have i ever been for censoring of views... or feel one shouldnt speak their peace.. just feel you came in with too much intense negativity in a positive thread.. and i feel you were a bit ghoulish....

dont know of any city in any part of the world that hasn't experienced high cost of living. racism, robberies.. incompetency, filth, rodents.. yada yada... thats not the first things one would think of with NYC.. and i will still say you used unwashed bloodspills in the street much like a scare tactic.. think it was a low blow.. we agree to disagree....

heck i go to kingston all the time... and while ill talk of the good and bad in jamaica.... i do not go on this board and tear kingston apart.. nor try to scare others away.. and create hysteria.. its irresponsible.... and believe me there is a lot more to be concerned with in kingston by a landslide....

Sammy - I've never seen chicken and waffles in NYC, first time I tried that was in LA, of all places...darn good though, and i introduced myself to Keenan Ivory Wayans in that restaurant [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif[/img]

Leonie, I stayed so long because of my family, remember.

I don't have all negative things to say about NYC, too bad the intrepid wasn't there when you went, that is very nice. Also, too bad you had to stay only in Manhattan, the Aquarium is breathtaking.

But on another note, until Xavier puts up a sign that says "only opinions agreeing with XYZ member shoudl post here" I am free to post where I want

I lived there for 11 years and never faced any crime. It's a beautiful city, especially given it's diversity(West Indians, Latinos and Hispanics are heavily concentrated there) and then there's broadway and so on. Lots of opportunities for young people too.

NYC has no more crime than anywhere else, believe me.

The Apollo was a very special experience....i felt so in awe to be there on stage where some of the greats have had their start....Seeing the Dakota building and Strawberry Fields really made me sad...such a senseless death................YOU LIVE IN NY TOO!!!????

My memory is not the best but here goes

the tree was donated by the mayor of the city to i want to say a musician by the name of Bo Jingles.....musicians would gather under the "tree of hope" hoping for a gig wishing for a lively hood (paying gig)...the tree was later removed and planted in front of the Lafayette (a performing venue) when the Lafayette was torn down the tree was also. It was then cut into chunks and one part was donated to the Apollo. It's suppose to symbolize luck....so before going on stage hopefuls rub the "tree of hope" for good luck.

That was my first time having chicken n waffles because i thought "that doesn't go together" and being from the south i don't normally order fried chicken out because well i won't taste home made and so often it's not done "right" but that chicken was so crispy, so golden....so good and the waffles were good as well....very good meal!

It truly is a melting pot and has A LOT to offer....like i said i could tell it has a dark side as any other "major" city could have i didn't go there with rose colored glasses on and tried to keep my wits on point....it's like no other place i've ever visited...thanks for stopping by!

Thank you for sharing your experience of NYC. I've been there a few times and I felt the city truly had a very special electric vibe. I loved it. The culture, the mix of people,the intensity, the architecture...all of it. Plus, I loved doing all the touristy things to. Being an immigrant I especially loved Ellis Island. I too have been to the Apollo and that place is special indeed.

Less than most big cities in the US.
