NYC GRAFFITI0 21 Spring Street

walking along downtown lower east side on my way to china town i came across this fabulous building covered with graffiti..

now street art and graffiti are nothing new in nyc... ive always loved it .. but something seemed different.. not sure why.. but i stopped to shoot...

a woman came up to me.. and said do you know what your shooting... its historical... i said why...

she said 21 spring street.. this building has been the canvas for street artists . ephemeral art for a long time... and they are wanting to rennovate this building. its been sold.. leaving all these artists withouth this staple.... apparently they held a show inside the building.. where the artists were allowed to cover the walls and windows with their art...

Is the location a place for visitors to go? Like you know, Missis Liberty... Central Park?

no richard.. its a place where artists of the street and underground.. what they call ephemeral art.. please look at the utube to understand........ have come to work on this building. people been coming by there for years. apparently it changes all the time.. i must have never noticed it.. anyhow because it was bought and is goign to be rennovated there was an uproar.. really wish an art person would have bought it for the people.. now that would have been something.. should be a museum for street artists....anyhow they over took the inside for three days with a show.. i missed it. but these walls are still there outside right now... dont know for how long.. and as long as they are.. there will be more art added.. i will go back this week...

this isnt a part of this building and not even near it. but its the kind of visual stimulation that happens in nyc.. where artists im sure get their creative impulses... its a collage..

but now looking closely...are some of these images painted elsewhere and then glued to the building?

the coffee cups in the last one give me some size perspective....at least on that image.

That space between the teeth and that tilt of the head is typically Mike Tyson.
