I don't see anything wrong with the bridge...it's different and unique. Agree with you on the history thing DC. One of the reasons why I don't have as many picture as I should is because I'm always caught up with the stories of an area or a building and by the time I snap out of it, it's too late to take a picture.

This ugly bridge was made for the Superbowl, and the sintin inside of it suppose to resamble a football (American football)

Thanks DC. Actually I wanted to start a thread quite a while ago for drive by shots...because Q.K mentioned always having her camera with her.

I went back yesterday morning and had the worse border crossing experience ever. kissteet. Di man sey ask mi if mi sure bout wey mi sey mi a guh, told me to turn off the engine and give him di key. He checked the trunk, the back seats, the front. Asked me how long I've had the car, I told him I just picked it up the night before and at that point I had to show him the ownership. Now I'm getting frustrated to the point where I couldn't even answer some of questions. Man wanted to know where I work, no problem there cause it's a regular questin but I couldn't remember, [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img] and why I wasn't at work. Mi nat driving no more, mi flying. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img] As if I could be a drug smuggler. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img]

However coming back over last night was a breeze and I had an american with me. The officer didn't even check our IDs.

What: 'The Fist' is a 24-foot bronze arm and fist suspended from pyramidal support beams that stand 24 feet tall. The monument, sculpted in blackened bronze and punching through the air toward the Detroit River, was the creation of sculptor, Robert Graham.

Where: Corner of Woodward Avenue and Jefferson Avenue, right in the heart of downtown Detroit.

History: This monument, commissioned in 1987 with a $350,000 grant from Sports Illustrated magazine, came as a gift to the city and a tribute to Detroit's great boxing hero, "The Brown Bomber", Joe Louis.

More Lore: "The Fist" is controversial - either adored or detested by those who live nearby. Some believe it represents racism and violence and negative imagery. Others question why this tribute sculpture is not wearing a boxing glove. As with all art, the interpretation is up to the individual.

Couple churches...I was told the pastor at the first one was once a drug dealer.

I may have mentioned this before but there are so many churches in Detroit. On one of our trips down, the kids and I made a game out of counting the number of churches on each street.



I asked the tree to move but it didn't.

Thanks...I prefer not to include the not so shiny places. We drove through an area on Friday and my friend told me to make sure the doors are always locked when I'm in that area. I saw prostitutes in the middle of the day...I thought they only worked at nights. Saw folks who (I was told) were stoned. Pretty sad....but then again, you can find that in just about any big city.

Fishing along the Detroit River

I'm starting a new job on Monday so I decided to take this week off to rest and relax. My daughter went away on her grade eight french class trip to Quebec City. My son worked all week so I had to find something to do to make the vacation days seem eventful. What better way than to head to my home away from home.

Mr. Compry had been wanting to take me fishing for quite some time now and I decided to give in and finally do it.

First stop was at the bait shop. I was told to stay in the car cause he knows how squeemish (there is such a word) I can be.



He walked out with buckets and a bag. Buckets were placed in the truck of the car and the bag was placed on my lap. Ewwwwwwww.....I didn't even bother asking what was in the bad because I knew I would probably throw it through the window.

Got to the fishing area along the Detroit River, looking over into Canada. He opened stuff up and this was sitting in my lap along with 3 other boxes. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whatever.gif[/img] Goody.



These weren't so bad and they were in the trunk.

As any great fisherperson knows...you get someone else to bait your hook. Mr. Compry baited my hook, toss my line into the river, placed the rod down and then told me to sit and watch the line. My kind of fishing. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img]

While I was waiting for a bite (apparently I missed several because I wasn't paying attention), I noticed the bridge to Canada in the far distance.



The folks in the bottom right of the picture had a BBQ going and they were passing out the beer. Several times I had visions of one of them falling into the river.

Shortly after I had my first noticable bite so Mr. Compry grabbed the rod and reeled him or her in. My first time going fishing and I caught a Rock Bass...well, technically I didn't but it was on my rod so it was my catch. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]







He took the hook out, placed it in the bucket and said he would filet it and cook it for me when we got home. I was happy...I was going to eat a fish that I actually caught.
