if you were here looking at my 53 below wind chill pictures, the ones where it was icing out probably are the ones that did it.
Nikon is dead. Condensation got inside the metal body. Ok so I need an emergency camera. A CHEAP emergency camera.

Most important to me right now is MACRO. Nikon was 2cm (0.8 inches to infinity).

Funny thing, my old Olympus that I sold to a friend that was cheap and is over 6 years old is still ticking.

I am at DPreview but thought some of you might have suggestions, and if ya do please and thhank you to share!

I'm still loving my Panasonic LZ-5, but there are newer better ones that are still under $200.

I was looking at the macro capabilities on under 200.00 camera's, right now I only worry about taking jewelry photos the most.

This Fuji had the least macro distance at 2.6 in. so far...

I think I am leanign towards this Olympus. I can say that my old one sure was easy to use, which Nikon was NOT...

No kidding Q.K, this winter has been a TEST to mi nerves. You forgot to add the dead computer to your list, lol. sad eh. I found the Olympus for under 200 including shipping, and it has the same macro distance as Nikon, which is right now my emergency. It takes some nice photos too, here is a sampling from DPreview at this link.

Maybe my Nikon heard me talking about getting another camera, but really I was just trying to lessen it's burden, I have used the hell out of it. They say that the more expensive digital cameras will come down drastically in price before year end so I was planning on getting a nice SLR. I figured I needed 2 camera so I always have a back up. But these things just cannot seem to wait till after June to fall apart, can they!

Thanks TDude. I am waiting to hear from a seller on Ebay on the the warranty for the Olympus and if it is full factory then I will hit the 'buy now" button. I think you should bring the extra camera with to the Apostles cause you just never know. I had no idea Nikon was dying, he was fine one night and in the morning he was dead.!

I am just glad the Nikon didn't crap out a few days earlier at my granddaughters big golden birthday party, OR...at the Apostles! It could be worse.

I just bought this one on Ebay brand new and pretty cheap....

It has a lot of the features that my Nikon has, such as Bulb exposure for night shots, and the same macro distance. sigh...

I'm just about positive it won't give me the same photo quality because I am really fond of Nikon lenses, but this thing si cheap enough I can start to save for a nice SLR digital by the end of the year, then the Olympus can be my "back up" camera, and the one I will take outside to shoot in snowstorms, rainstorms and 53 below wind chill.

Hell, maybe I'll even go get the Nikon again, they are going for under 300.00 on Ebay used. But for now I am saving for a SLR starting now!

whew now I just hope it is here bout monday, I've been 2 weeks today without a camera and it seems like forever!

Thanks loopsie! Even when I go buy some rechargeable batteries and a charger I will have stayed under $200. so I feel pretty good about that. However, that 200.00 was money I was saving for a kiln. Back to the drawing board, lol...as my buddy Gilda used to say, "it's always something"!
