This is my first and hopefully not the last. It was really a society thing. Ivoree introduced me to Alvin Curling among many others but when she introduced me to Minister Chambers I was all tongue tied.

Chief Emmanuel C. Mbulu, Business Award. Born in Igbodo, Nigeria.

Staff Superintendent Peter Sloly, Professional Excellence. Peter was born in Kingston, Jamaica and immigrated to Canada in 1976.

Richard Lord, Community Service Award. Born in Montreal in 1929.

Farley Flex, Arts, Media & Entertainment Award. Farley is one of the judges on Canadian Idol and he's a founding member of FLOW 93.5

Dr. Ouida Marina Wright & husband Leebert A. Wright both received the Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Victor E. Gooding, Technology and Innovation Award

Mary Tidlund, President's Award. Mary was adopted at the age seven by a Calgary family along with three other adopted children. After completing a science degree in Geography from the University of Calgary, she began a 15 year career in the oil industry; later becoming President and CEO of a publicly traded oil exploration and service company. On October 14, 1998 she founded Mary A. Tidlund Charitable Foundation which is designated as a public foundation. The foundation financially supports and participates in medical, dental and educational programs in Canada and overseas.

Way to go Mary.

Dr. Kwadwo Asante, Health Services Award.

Trailblazer Award was given to Dr. Jean Augustine & Commander Dr. Alvin Curling. Along with her many political involvement, Jean supports the Jean Augustine Scholarship Fund which assists single mothers to undertake post secondary study at George Brown College.

Alvin was the first black Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. In 2005 he was appointed Canada's ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary (MG, sounds like a word you would use) to the Dominican Republic.
