It is almost worse being at the library than home because I thought I would be able to see Laurel's photographs at least! But...Noooooooo, I can see a few but from what I can tell Seveen saw her beads! Yep, Sevvie! the beads HAD to go to the Apostles and pick up some of the spirit vibe from there, they truly are traveling beads! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70409-waytogo.gif[/img]

Hopefully I will have my puter back in a day or so, what a time for it to get sick on me, man oh man!!! I missed you all this morning over coffee!



I didn't loose my pictures cause i didn't erase my memory card yet, WHEW! Although a do-over would be fun!
What pics did I see, Hmm, OH, lovely saturday morning sunrise, funny Dudie and LB, and the beautiful glistening diamond water.

Nanook checkin in from the northwoods of Wisconsin, strong caffeine in hand and listenin to John Prine and reminiscing on what surely was one of the most memorable of my many journeys...My computer is home and well and now I can start back where I left off yesterday morning...lookin photos and sharing my version of the story here for ya'll. It is so great to have this group trip report for the different perspectives and for once I don't feel so danged one sided about this place I live. It truly is a paradise on earth and yeah, it's a cold place a lot of the time, but for that it stays pristine. I recently heard National geographic lists The Apostle Islands as one of the top 10 most beautiful places on earth. How lucky for me that it is just a bit over an hour away from my door step! If the weather was great year round there would be droves of people and it just wouldn't be what it is I guess so for that I'll accept the 30 below and try not to cry too loud, hehe. . Some winters make a few of us feel like we want to flee but then along comes June, and kinda like childbirth, the painful thoughts of winter lessen each day until Summer Solstice and now we can even enjoy looking at snow pictures again, it seems like such a long time ago already now. Up here we call this land where I live God's Country. If the seasons do anything, it makes you feel alive at least.

The hours before the coming together to me are most interesting, as we all went through much preparation and hunter-gathering and cooking and baking and phone calls comparing shopping lists just to make sure.... None of us wanted anyone want for anything, so you can imagine we had everything. I even dang near grabbed the kitchen sink but stopped short of that. Hearing about Laurel trying to pack jaith's convertible was hilarious and to see the pics was sure an added bonus!

Most of you have probably seen our thread in Jamaicaholics where we planned and cajoled for months on end in anticipation of exploring my beloved Apostle Islands National Lake Shore on Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world. We call it Gitchee Gummi, meaning shining blue sea in Ojibwa. The planning started around last January or February when I was looney enough to be out at sunrise in -27F below with a -53F degree wind-chill taking Blue ice photographs from northern Minnesota, the south shore Wisconsin, and our neighboring Upper Peninsula of Michigan. LulaBell mentioned she would love to come up and visit Bayfield and the Apostles with me and my answer to that was that I had been planning on going in June for an excursion to celebrate my then impending retirement and it would be great if she wanted to come join me. I spend a good amount of time on the Apostles National Shoreline on land but had never been sailing, that has been a long time dream. From then, the seed had been planted. We kept the seed well watered throughout the winter and jaith and Turtledude and his lady LB decided they would make a journey up this way and by the time our weekend finally arrived the way things fell into place it couldn't have been better. Everything was absolutely perfect right down to the weather.

Turtledude and LB and daughter units left Washington state on Wednesday morning and drove straight through to Wisconsin. That's their tale to tell but I can jump in with their arrival in my neighborhood. Meanwhile, back at the farm, I was up into the wee hours of the morning wednesday night making jerk marinade and preparing and soaking 20 LBS of some of the biggest chicken breasts I had seen in a long while. I cooked it all on Thursday afternoon while the dude Crew headed east. A huge batch of rice and pea also of course and I flash froze it all right out of the fire and into the freezer. It stays moist and juicy when you do it that way and works great for get togethers when everyone is on the go. Thursday I had just finished an all day'er grilling over charcoals in my barrel stove when the Dude and Dudettes arrived in the hood. It was like at first sight although I didn't have any doubts it wouldn't be! I felt as though I had known them for years, and the daughter units were great as well. We headed to dinner at what Turtledude has nicknamed "Jah B's North". Joyce who owns Jah B restaurant is here visiting for the summer and her sister Patsy is my neighbor and works in a very cute little restaurant on an area lake just up the road from me where it just so happens...Thursday is Jamaica night! Patsy cooks and I had made a few arrangements in anticipation of the Dude crew. After dinner our weary travelers headed off for some well deserved rest but when I got home I can't say I slept much at all for I was so full of anticipation over the weekend that sleep escaped me for the most part!

As far as I know there are no photos of the beginning. I was too busy readying everything in order to be able to leave my farm to my good friend for the weekend as well as cook and pack and there just wasn't the luxury of time and at the little Jah B North gathering we were just having too much fun yakking away to stop for pics. Besides, food pics are not my forte'. Neither are people pics but I did manage to get a few nice ones of everyone! OK, nuff of the preliminaries, time to get on with the rest of the tory.

lol Rootsie and jaith! Yeah I can talk a blue streak for real! This puter got a bunch of cursing aimed in it's general direction this morning that's for sure! I can almost forgive it now though. Sheesh...so I fed it 622 photos & movies, it shouldn't be such a big deal! If there was ever any doubt about Nanook being a wimpy little thing, that theory would surely be put to rest by now! I take the bull by the horns and don't let anything get in my way, lol. Dead computer? Swear at it till it gets better, heheh...
