Friday morning brought us a run to town for last minute supplies before we left civilization as we know it. The dude crew had a sweet little GPS thingie to guide them to our destination so I headed home and started to load the car and the plan was to meet them at the house. The morning was warm but a cold north wind began to blow off our mighty Gitchee Gummi and when that happens it dosen't matter what month it is, it gets cold. I started throwing winter jackets and sweaters in my car along with what seemed everything else I own and stopped just short of the throwing in the kitchen sink. Until the weather happened I was doing a pretty mild clothes packing job for me! With the temps all around us in the 80's I figured it would be a shocker when everyone got to shore so I had nuff warm stuff to clothe everyone, lol. Even just 10 miles inland it was hot and in the 80's but on shore it was suddenly jacket weather! LulaBell has the photos from that night, so glad for that because I didn't stop long enough to take any. I LOVE the photo of Dudie on the grill in the smoke Lulabell! I was inside for the most part, my job was to slice buns for grilling and onions for those wonderful charcoal burgers.

The house..what can I say about the house. It was absolutly goregous. Furnished in only the best, right down to a leather couch that was so soft you just sunk into it. There was a fireplace we never got around to lighting but I bet when the weather is so cold you don't want to be outside it comes in mighty handy and lends to a nice ambience. First class all the way was how the house was decorated and it was so clean you'd never know it was inhabited before.

Reggae was playing as we got aquainted and fed our faces. It was one of those "pinch me" moments. Were we really here? Am I dreaming? Nope, Nanook, this ain't a dream, you are really here! It was different for me being on shore at night, I always head home early enough so I can get off the roads by dark! We had long staked our sleeping spots and I shared the cutest room with jaith that had a little balcony over looking the Onion River. Sleep came early on the comfy little bed, with dreams of sunrise on Gitchee Gummi dancing in my head.



Before heading off to bed I warned everyone I'd be crawling out the door in time for sunrise, or at least I was hoping to! You must get up pretty early in the morning to see sunrise this far north this time of year! You best be there by 5am! Who should I find awake the next morning at that time but LulaBell! Yayyy, someone to share sunrise with! The dude and LB were sleeping in a tent right on our beach and said they'd see us there! LulaBell, it was a wonderful morning to share with you!



LulaBell prolly thought I was loco but I thought I had spotted a totem pole in the yard next door so I started wandering over that way for a look. I've been out taking totem pole photos lately so I was drawn to this like a magnet even though it was not a totem pole!



I never did get over there to take a daylight photo of it but to me it is significant in more ways than one. As I was driving along the shoreline to get there, 2 bald Eagles escorted me for a good ways and I took it as a good sign considering the connection to my French Canadian heritage and Eagles.

Soon just about all of us were gathered on the beach and talking about how blessed we were to be able to come together in this beautiful place. I think this was about the time Dudie realized none of us had ever met before except for LulaBell and jaith. It was truly a "meeting". It was a warm morning with little to no wind and I took the opportunity to christen Seveen's African Trade beads to the Apostles. It just seemed fitting that they come to this place, having traveled so far to get to me already!
Ya'll have seen the photos of that, pretty wonderful eh! Yep, I passed them around and we all admired them and now they can go back to Florida and carry a little bit more spirit than they already had. From Africa to the Apostles they have traveled!

ha ha ... I did not want to miss a thing ... I lay into my comfy couch and slept for around an hour ~ then was watchful of the clock then just got up and sat waitin pon someone to get up and go to the lakeside with me.

We sat enjoying the WARMTH of the hot sun rising ... and the flys came a chompin!!! no spray could keep them away ... soon nuff we scattered to the shelter away from them. I sat back on my couch - Jaith came to join - chat in her easy tone ... and me sleepy head nods and drops .... snaps back up and nods back again. Lulabell, yep that's what I hear...only I wasn't there for the part where jaith lulled you to sleep. Yes the black flies were relentless. Northwoods June nemesis. I guess if it is breezy they're not so bad but we were having balmy and tropical! I felt kind of guilty in a way, because for some reason the black flies didn't come and bother me hardly at all. It was like they knew I was a "local". I have experienced this phenonemon in Jamaica when the mosquitos and sand fleas have a picnic on me but hardly bother my Jamaican friends. I was pretty amazed by it, actually.

Jody and family decided to go do some sightseeing in Bayfield & I decided to head the other way to Washburn for a couple of things. I was all ready to walk out the door when my cell phone rings. It's Val my friend of over 40 years and her daughter who is a vet tech and they are babysitting the farm. Rosebud the Dobergirl is seriously ill and needs immeadiate medical attention. I was on my way out the door before I even hung up the phone...

I should have known better... that I can leave the farm and not have a glitch somewhere. Lucky for me I am only an hour away because my girl was sick and it didn't matter if I was a thousand miles away I would drop everything and go to her.

Rosebud is my service dog. She goes everywhere with me including malls and even the finest restaurants. Against my better judgement I decided to leave her home for the weekend with Val. Rosebud knows & loves Val but the bottom line is, since I rescued Rosebud 5 years ago I had never left her. As it turned out, Rosebud was not the only dog stressing out here. There were about 4 other kids who weren't eating and giving the babysitter all kinds of problems because they wanted their mom. They are worse than human kids, lol...

As you can see, Rosebud lives the life of Riley here...



Long story short, Rosebud couldn't handle me leaving her. She developed a condition known as bloat which is often deadly and it is almost always 100% deadly if not treated. It is stress induced and common in big chested dog breeds such as Dobermans and Great Danes and even Standard Poodles. Having a vet tech for my dog sitter is the only reason Rosebud is here today, she knew what signs to look for. I'd been down this road with Rosie before so I knew what to do to treat her.

I spent the afternoon on Saturday here at home taking care of my girl. What a silly creature, she KNEW I was leaving again no matter what I did to try to fool her into thinking it was just another day in the neighborhood. Once Val was able to get back here and I knew Rosebud was out of the woods I left and was able to resume my weekend!

I got back just in time to get ready to go to the Attitudes and Latitudes party at the marina where our boat just happened to be! We will go meet the famous Capt'nZiggy and see what's up at the party.

Meeting Capt'nZiggy was great. He is a gracious man with a heck of a sense of humor and every bit a ladies man. The party was in full swing by the time we arrived which was pretty interesting but I needed to de-stress from my long afternoon and a party atmosphere is not conducive to that and I had been noticing the skyline turning some of the most awesome shades of blue so I headed down to the water with my camera where it was more quiet.





Earlier rather than later we headed back to the house for a nice quiet evening in our cozy little abode, all the while excitement was buidling over the next morning's sail. I was living a dream, live and in technicolor, we're going out to sea to visit my Apostles in the morning!

What's that LulaBell? jaith??? Peter Paul and Mary? And Puff the Magic Dragon?

Lol yep, I'm not too proud to sell my jewels right off my neck that's for sure, hehe! See LulaBell, you're not too early for the party, just in time although I felt like I had arrived a bit late! The little girl passing out flowers was so cute! She gave jaith a better flower than she gave me!
