Well Nylah, it's a long story.

In October I went to Bayfield...and while I was there I stopped by the old graveyard to take some photos of the old magnificent headstones against the fall colors. It was great, all the beautiful rotting foliage against the smooth moss covered marble was just beautiful. I had been out around Bayfield shooting all morning; camera working fine. I have the utmost respect for the spirits and treaded lightly. I paid attention to where I walked, I was careful. Not careful enough evidently!

Suddenly...my camera stopped working. Yep, just up and quit! I changed the battery and did everything I know to make it work. I managed to get a few shots but with a lot of trouble. I thought my camera was breaking and was pretty bummed but I went on down to the shore near Basswood Island and my camera was just fine! It only acted up at the cemetery! 5 minutes later it was fine!

So then...a week or so later I was out with my camera taking sunrise pictures in front of my house...

When I came in and was looking at the photos, I noticed something in the corner of a handful of the photos that was not in the other ones. See it the in the bottom corner?



There was nothing in the yard over there at all! Then I blew the photo up to get a look at it was...

In June I had been out calling to the spirits taking orb photos. I actually got some of the Orbs a few times and one night I had Orbs on my photos and in the morning I looked at the same pictures and the Orbs were gone! Anyway, I quit doing that when wolves started showing up regularly and kinda took the fun out of wandering around in the woods in the dark alone.

In early December I had a fire that burned down my pump house. That made my winter really sucky cause I had to haul all my water for almost 6 months. I really do sometimes wonder if that spirit woman had anything to do with it! In January I was passing through Bayfield and stopped by the cemetery again and told the spirit if she was in my car to get the heck out, and I dropped her off, lol. I haven't seen her since!


Anyway...needless to say, I made sure to offer something to the Earth before I took any photos of the Indian cemetery at Maddie Island, and I stayed on my side fo the fence where I belong!

OK I'm overly thirsty now so it's time to go checkout Tom's Burned Down Cafe!

As you can see, it really did burn down. It also reminded me of being in Jamaica. Even the paint job on the bar is a lot like at Uncle Sam's only different colors











Maddie Island is a very artsy community and there are painted art cars all over the island, I have seen photos of them online. I did see one in someones yard but there was no place to pull over for picture taking. Tom has a truck for sale evidently!



This old wagon is out behind Toms.



See the LIVE ART sign in the photo above? Live Art is an annual event at Toms. A huge truckload of scrap metal is dumped on the ground and the participants have at it.

I imagine these sculptures were the result of that!



I love this drummer one!





I didn't get to meet Tom so I will have to go back. Tom was busy with his new family! Yes a birth announcement!

All good things must come to an end and it was time to start thinking about getting back here to the farm and tuck in all the animals for the night and water my gardens and all, a Nanooks work is never done but it was a GREAT get a way day and Rosie really enjoyed having me all to herself on an adventure!

Suddenly I had this sinking feeling. The sinking feeling you get when you realize you just messed up. Remember earlier when we got to Toms, I decided to throw my purse back in the car at last minute and just stuff my cash in Rosie's vest pocket? Well, my KEYS were in the car and the car was locked. OOPS&gt;

I had been yakking with a guy who was telling me the runnings and it was great to already know someone when I had to come back with my tail between my legs and admit I was an idiot that locked my keys in my car. I wondered if there was a slim Jim at Toms, they have everything else! It was then that i was introduced to the most beautiful cop I have ever met. Her name was Jennifer and she was waaay cool. She called Will and he was there in about a minute with a tool that was better than a slim Jim. "Don't feel bad, people do it all the time", he said.

And then I was on my way to the ferry before I knew it and headed back to the mainland.






I REALLY hated to leave...but I will be back!

I have never been uncomfortable in cemetaries except when I have been in or near an Indian burial ground....Growing up there was this big bruhaha over a new development we moved into because part of it was built on an old burial ground and was not properly excavated and cordoned off. I had some strange/scary moments as a kid in our neighborhood...but didnt know about the old burial ground until I was a bit older.

Thank you Nylah I'm glad that you enjoyed my little journey! I sure did!

On the Orb stuff, I posted that here with photos and it was interesting to see others chiming in. I told the duppy stories for Halloween, lol.


A well known Minnesota musician that used to frequent a bar where I worked in Mpls in the late 70's is going to be playing there next month and I have always loved his music so I just might go.

I can see me buying a van just so I could put an air bed in it and the only other thing I would need is a cooler and Rosebud and I'm set! I could go camping on Maddie island once or twice a month, it's only something like 10 bucks a night at the beautiful city park! For now I have a big Dodge with a HUGE back seat so if I go to back I just might car camp, lol.

Nina yes the winters are long and the cold is unbelievable sometimes but we know how to deal with it. Going out to play in 40 below can be FUN and not cold at all if you're wearin your Mukluks and nuff layers of the right stuff! Winter is still my favorite time of year to take photos! If the weather was beautiful year round we'd be crowded up here hehe...so let the cold stay.

That is the attitude I need to adopt. I have a feeling I will be coming to you for all kinds of advice on how to adapt to really really cold weather. I'm hoping the cold dark winters will make me appreciate spring and summer even more. Plus, I am looking forward to having seasons again.

(((Sweedie)))...anytime you need advice on stayin warm I'm full of it, lol. There is something to be said for the seasons. I don't know what I like better, Fall, or Winter! Summer is my 3rd favorite and spring my least favorite! not that she asked, lol...
