Buenos tardes mi amigas!

Just returned from my exile in Costa Rica last night. What a great place to spend a little down time...so beautiful and natural. We didn't have the best of weather but what can you expect when you visit the rainforest at the tail end of the rainy season? You can expect rain and mist with your bits of sun, but never a lack of wildlife and natural wonders around every corner. We loved the people and place a great deal and i look forward to visiting again sometime in the dry season. Regardless the weather, everything in Costa Rica is Pura Vida, as they say.

So anyway....i've got a few pics that aren't pathetically blurry....care to see?

A little background:

First time in a new country so i opted to contract our travel services witha company i found on the internet called



COSTA RICAN TRAILS

they were great to work with, allowing me to custom design our itinerary, using their drivers part of the time, and a rent a car for the middle of the trip. I highly recommend them.

we spend our first and last nights in Alejuela, which is in actuality the town the airport is in (not San Jose). nice small hotel called the Buena Vista, located high in the hills on a coffee plantation overlooking the city with the mountains in the background. just lovely. we arrived in the evening, so it was dark, all we could see were the city lights, and feel the warm moist air. Great start tho. Next morning, our driver arrived to transport us to Manuel Antonio. A stunning 3 1/2 hour drive, much of it along the Pacific coast. My first view of the pacific was grand. We made one stop along the way to view some crocs under the bridge over the Rio Tarcoles, a very touristy thing to do, but still, they were BIG crocs. Did i take a pic? no....crocs don't do it for me i guess.

The country side was a beautiful green patchwork of rolling hills and farmlands...the roads are much better than i expected...but i will caution, they are WINDING and STEEP. I'd hate that in one of those tourismo buses.

Finally we arrived at Manuel Antonio and were deliverd to our hotel, Costa Verde. One word for the view from our studio plus digs? AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING. We hard a hard time dragging our butts away from it.

is that gorgeous or what? we slept each night listening to the waves below...the place had no windows just big screens...even without AC we were way comfy.

let's see a bit of fauna shall we?



Fruity Loops in the trees every morning...tons of birds everywhere. These are Toucans. And Iguanas....well, you just get tired of shooing them, they're everywhere, and quite large.

We could hear Howler Monkeys in the trees nearby all day, and boy do they howl. It's more of a roar really...fascinating noises eminating from the rainforest. They were pretty easy to spy in the trees, swinging in groups from tree to tree...what fun!





and this next pic is a sloth...ever seen one? they move unbelievably slowly...it's comical...complete slowwwwwwww moooootionnnnnnnnnnn.



i was able to get lots of pics of this guy, as he spent the night in the tree right off our veranda.
