The blue stuff is Earth which is moistly oceans. That is what you are seeing.
the pics wher you can see space in th ebackground is black as you thought.

I'd love to go! That would definately be an experience of a lifetime.

I think I wouldn't mind hanging out of the contraption either. Since there is no gravity, there's no danger of falling.
But there is the danger of drifting into space for millions of light years, so betta hold on tight after all.
