My sorry it's late trip report to Greece

My son, my mom, my sister and I left around 6:30pm at the beginning of August for a long flight to Greece. For them it's a trip they can do every year or so. I have not been so lucky to get an extended vacation so I manage to go almost every 10 years. It will be a trip filled with love, sadness and bonding with new acquaintances as cousins have been married and had children.

It all started at the Duty Free.

Olympic Airways has been known to always be late but we go lucky and it took off on time. Last time I flew to Greece it was delayed by almost 4 hours.

The first week I did not take any pictures. The long flight, the long layover at Athens and then the 2nd flight took a big toll on my son and I. We were out of it for 3 days. Could not adjust to the time difference, could not eat too much and just plain feeling like blah..... We were staying with my grandparents who live in a little town of 200 and 90% of the people are over the age of 65. We bonded and just absorbed them as much as possible. The surroundings were familiar to me as not much had changed and it was more important to me to get my son better, myself and to catch up with my grandparents. After a week, we moved into my parent's home that is in the next town over. About a 10 minute drive from my gp's home. Population about 10,000. They even have a supermarket. Mind you it's the size of our average convenience store but it carries the necessities and with a bakery/pastry shop almost on every corner who needs it anyway!!

The 2nd week we were there, was a Greek holiday and all the children perform dances in the town's center. There are even dance groups that come from other parts of Greece.

For almost 3 weeks while we were there the temps would reach up to 40 degrees celcius which meant alot of beach time. We went to 4 different beaches depending on the time and our moods. Some were clearer waters then others but all were soothing to my soul.

Towards the end of August these jellyfish come out and boy do they sting if they get you. People would get them out of the water and bury them deep in the sand.

At one beach the water was crystal clear. Towards the beginning the floor were rocks but so smooth that they did not hurt your feet.

The vendors on the beaches don't sell ciiiiiiiigarettes or fruit. They sell donuts and honey balls. All the good stuff that goes straight to the hips.

Bandi's and Seveen trip reports gave me the kick in the behind to start it. I was feeling sorry for myself because I have not been able to see Jamaica in 3 years. I had to remind myself how lucky I was to have had the chance to go to Greece.
