Great pics...make me feel right at home. Love love love it. Please post some more. I've been to a few races like this in my lifetime and they are always a bunch of fun.

I've been sitting here just glaring at the computer screen looking at these wonderful pictures. You captured a lovely one of the winner for sure. The ice and snow on his face. I hope he doesn't have frost bite. The dogs look tired and hungry. I noticed some of them had on coats and others did not. Some had booties and others did not. Do you know why? Maybe they would not run with the coats and booties on? This must have been really fun to watch. One day I want to come for sure. So does the winner go on participate in the Ididerod?

Marnin Schultz and welcome loops and Swedie! Yes loops I was sure wishin I had my wonderful cleats yesterday but I will have them in a little while when I get home. Who knew it was going to get so treacherous out there! yikes. BTW that was the first time I took a spill since you sent me cleats cause I do use em.

Schultz I don't know about why the jackets. But the booties..they were having a hell of a time on the trail because of the ice. Over half the mushers dropped out of the race because of the conditions on the trail. My waving neighbor, he ended up dropping out and so many others. The booties while they protect the paws from cracking, they were also slippery and making the dogs loose traction and they were getting shoulder injuries and such and I noticed some of Jasons dogs had booties and some didn't. Not sure how he decided who to boot and who not to boot though.

Anyway, I came home after the first two teams pulled in and I saw a 3rd on the trail crossing the road while I was driving. It was hard not to go back to the finish just for the excitement of it all. I can't remember how the purse is divided but I am thinking everybody that ended up finishing was going to get a piece of it. Ha, don't quote me on that one though and I looked all over the Beargrease website trying to find out and I couldn't find it. Maybe it will be in today's paper.

I had planned to hit the trail up the shore like I did a couple years ago to capture some shots but it's a good thing I looked at the website first and found out that all of the mushers had already left towards the finish. Usually there are plenty stragglers still out on the trail but since so many scratched it wasn't the case.

Some of you have seen these so scuse the repeat but this is what I wanted to go see. (pics from 2006)...

I've always wanted to follow the teams up to the trail center and maybe that is what I will do next year. I have a whole year to plan what I will do but it will be fun whatever it is. Just being a spectator is work, I can't even imagine the stamina it takes for these people to do this gruelling sport...my hat is off to all of them!
