One thing I found surprising (again, place full a surprises you know) is that there is no such thing as a "typical Brazilian". I've always had this image of Brazilian women in my mind, and I was surprised to see that they could really borrow our "Out of Many, One People" motto and use it as their own. </span>

We wanted to see the carnival rehersals at the samba schools but they were held only on Saturday nights. We missed the first one, and it wasn't convenient to be in Rio the following Saturday. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nahtalktoyuh.gif[/img]

Cachaça (IPA: [ˌkaˈʃasɐ]) is the most popular distilled alcoholic beverage in Brazil. Cachaça is denomination of origin, in other regions of Brazil it is known as "aguardente", "pinga" or other names. Cachaça is only produced in Brazil, where 396 million gallons are consumed annually (roughly eight litres per head), compared with 3.96 million outside the country.[1] Cachaça is, "...the product of the distillation of fermented sugarcane juice, with its alcohol strength between 38% and 48% by volume. Up to six grams per liter of sugar may be added."[2]

Cachaça is often said to differ from rum in that it is made from sugarcane juice while rum is made from either molasses or sugarcane juice then aged in oak barrels.

1.3 billion liters of Cachaça are produced each year. Only 1% of this production is exported (mainly to Germany).[3]. Outside Brazil, cachaça is used almost exclusively as an ingredient in tropical drinks, with the caipirinha being the most famous cocktail.

Real easy to make. You have to make sure thou that the limes taste nice. Cause I used some Indian limes the other day and dem mash up di flayva. So use quality limes that taste nice.

Most popular brand is Cachaça 51. Real cheap too. Only about US$3 for a bottle. And you have to use nice granulated brown sugar other wise peer crosses.
