The contentuous issue of the safety of wheelchair-bound people arose again last week when two persons, the man at left and a woman heading in the opposite direction, could not pass along the sidewalk on Golding Avenue across from the University Hospital of the West Indies, just below Mona Commons. The woman decided to wait while the man made his way down, but even onlookers complained that the responsible authority ought to widen the sidewalk to allow for easier access to persons with disabilities. The issue came to the forefront just over a week ago when a Jamaica Urban Transit bus killed 39-year-old wheelchair-bound Marlon King as he made his way along the same road.
