Former Jamaica and West Indies cricketer Richard Austin was remembered yesterday as a dedicated son of Jamaica who gave his all for his country. A service of thanksgiving for the life of Austin, popularly known as 'Danny Germs', was held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, North Street, Kingston. Austin, who died recently, also played football for the former All Saints/Jones Town team, and was a member of Arnett Gardens Football Club's historic Corporate Area Major League winning team of 1977. The former St Andrew Technical High School student also played table tennis to a high level. He was a member of a West Indies Rebel cricket team that toured then Apartheid South Africa in 1982 and 1983, but fell upon hard times when he returned to Jamaica. He was buried in St Ann.
