Xia Guoshun (right), deputy chief of mission and political counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Kingston, presents one of the more than 75 text and work (practice) books in Mandarin to Dr Fritz Pinnock (centre), executive director of the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI), and Raymond Ernandez, Financial Controller of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) during a Mandarin class hosted by the SAJ for its staff and affiliates. The books were donated by the Republic of China to enhance the teaching learning experience offered during Mandarin classes at CMI. Earlier this year, the Chinese Government, in partnership with the CMI, provided two Mandarin lecturers to conduct classes at CMI as part of the undergraduate programme and customised offerings to the shipping and related industries.
