Perhaps the only two Jamaicans who left the National Stadium with smiles on their faces on Friday night were Industrial Gases Ltd (IGL) employee Vernon Thompson and his fiancee Mikhailia Mattis. For Mattis, it was a pleasant, though shocking experience, when Thompson went on his knees and proposed to her in front of a half-filled facility at the half time break. The couple had been asked to make their way to the cycle track, presumably to collect a gate prize. But only Thompson left with the prize, as he hit the ground while Mattis was viewing the big screen for another announcement, just as she turned to see her beau on one knee, armed with an engagement ring. Naturally, the big question followed. The sequence of photographs on these pages aptly capture the proud and happy moments in the lives of the couple, all sealed with a kiss.
