A declaration by Police Commissioner Owen Ellington that the police will continue to conduct random searches, despite reports of a Court ruling which says the police have no power under the Road Traffic Act to arbitrarily stop and search motor vehicles, has drawn criticisms from Jamaica Observer online readers. In a story yesterday, Ellington said the police will continue to "do what we are doing" while in the meantime examine if the ruling has any "significant implication for how we operate".
