WHAT IS THE LUNCHEON-CONCERT?
This is a fundraiser by the Wolmer's Alumni Association, Toronto, and is given to raising funds for Wolmer's Boys School (1400 students) and Wolmer's Girls School (1400 students) which are located in Kingston, Jamaica. As well, the event raises funds to support the post-secondary aspirations of young Canadians in the Toronto area (scholarships).
The Luncheon-Concert will be held on Sunday, November 28 at the Pearson Convention Centre (See attached flyer). The event offers a wonderful four-course plated Luncheon followed by a performance by world renowned Jamaican-born jazz pianist Monty Alexander, an alumnus of Jamaica College. (See attached bio) For this event, Monty has promised a unique program in which he will present his piano arrangements of popular Jamaican music, and to deliver this he will be accompanied by three top Jamaican musicians who currently play out of New York. In addition, Monty will be joined by two of Canada's most accomplished jazz musicians, Dave Young and Terry Clark. So, we present Monty Alexander accompanied by five top musicians which adds up to one very special occasion.
CAN YOU HELP BY PROMOTING THIS EVENT TO YOUR FELLOW ALUMNI AND FRIENDS?
This event represents our 'ambitions gone wild'...meaning we are in the kind of entertainment territory that demands the sale of a large number of tickets for the event to be financially viable. Can you help by drawing this event to the attentioin of your alumni-association membership, and to relatives, friends and business associates? The attached poster should help. You may contact me should your friends require tickets. See the attached ticket request form.
WHAT IS THE COST FOR THE LUNCHEON CONCERT?
This year, our association introduces 'tiered pricing'. This allows for our corporate sponsors (should we find any) to pay a top rate, and for our other guests to select the level of support they can afford. We are hoping some corporate supporters will spring for a $3000. table and that some well-heeled guests will see $150. as a reasonable amount to pay knowing this is about supporting our schools in Jamaica. However, most guests will likely opt for the $100. or $75. level and we appreciate this level of support. Attached is a 'ticket request form' that provides some more insight into our pricing structure.
Remember, as our guest and supporter you have the option to select any level you prefer and to know that your group can sit at the same table irrespective of the level each person (at the table) selects. Sitting as a group in the company of your friends trumps the level of support. As well, note that all levels will provide the same four-course meal (vegetarian option available) plus approximately 75-80 minutes by Monty Alexander, and that all our guests will be fully treasured by our alumni group.
WHAT VALUE WILL THE WOLMER'S LUNCHEON-CONCERT OFFER TO GUESTS?
Our guests should expect a special experience, including:
1) A 75-80 minute Concert featuring Monty Alexander
2) A four-course plated luncheon in an elegant setting.
3) The skills of our MC, Gary Archibald, current broadcaster with Canada's leader in national television weather news and forecasting - The Weather Network and formerly of NBC.
4) Anthems (Canadian and Jamaican) sung by rising star Amoy Levy.
5) A Silent Auction featuring very special items including time at Caribbean hotel properties.
7) The Grand Raffle featuring a high-value prize.
8) Door prizes.
9) Free parking.
10) Free coat check
