As of Tuesday, more stringent measures will be imposed on illegal immigrants in Britain.
In an ongoing effort to curb the existing illegal activities of non-immigrants, foreign nationals who want to extend their stay in Britain will now have to apply for national identity cards.
The cards will store biometric information such as fingerprints and an electronic photo of the holder's face.
The holder's name, date of birth, nationality and details of their right to work and stay in the country will also be printed on the card.
Students and persons who are married to British citizens will be high on the agenda for Home Office officials as they will be given these special ID cards first.
Within the next three years, legal workers will also be given ID cards so as to cut down on the number of illegal immigrants working in the country.
UK State Ministers expect that between 50 and 60 thousand cards will be issued by the end of March of next year.
