The Search Mi Heart guest house in Drapers, Portland on Jamaica's North East coast, was early this morning badly damaged by fire.
It is not known how the blaze started. Residents believe it was caused by lightning.
The occupants, including four guests, escaped unharmed.
The fire started about 12:30. One of the guests, an Italian, Guiseppe Sorrenti, said the guests were able to save their belongings.
Sorrenti said he was asleep when the fire started, but luckily his girlfriend was awake and detected smoke. Shortly afterwards he said a loud "boom" was heard. Then when smoke began entering their bedroom, under the door, he said, "we ran away!"
