A senior official of the Ministry of Education has been sent on leave as a precautionary measure, following a recent visit to Nigeria.
This has been confirmed by Education Minister Ronald Thwaites. He told RJR News on Thursday night that the staff member travelled to attend an event in Nigeria.
According to Mr. Thwaites, the employee has not displayed any sign of illness, but the Ministry preferred to act cautiously, and therefore, upon her return to Jamaica, "out of an abundance of caution, she was asked to go on leave for a few weeks."
The Minister stressed that "there is absolutely no indication of any illness or of any exposure to any contagious ailment," adding that "there is no reason for any suspicion, let alone any panic."
Nigeria is one of the countries which originally reported cases of Ebola, but has been successful in containing the spread.
