A senior official of the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) is in police custody on drug trafficking charges.
Dr. Joan Valentine, a Consultant and Director of Quality Control Systems in the Administration Department at the UHWI, was arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport on Wednesday in possession of nearly 10 pounds of cocaine.
<span style="font-weight: bold">The narcotics police report that Dr. Valentine, a 55-year old American,</span> was preparing to board a flight to the United States when a sniffer dog alerted the cops to drugs in her luggage.
Her luggage was searched and the cocaine found.
Dr. Valentine was taken into custody and later charged with drug trafficking.
She is scheduled to appear in the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Court on Friday.
The cocaine is said to have a street value of more than J$1 million.
