Two tragedies in Westmoreland and neighbouring St. James have sent shock-waves through the education fraternity in both parishes.
In St. James, a Vice-Principal is in custody for the death of her husband, while in Westmoreland a schoolgirl who had been abducted was found dead.
In the first incident, 14-year-old Shelly Ann Gordon was at home with other family members in the Hatfield, Westmoreland about 9:30 Sunday night, when gunmen reportedly entered their home through the grilled doorway, which had been left ajar.
The gunmen demanded money from the child's father.
He reportedly gave them $300 which he had in his pocket but the men were not satisfied.
They reportedly tied up three of the family member fled with Shelly Ann, who was dressed in her pajamas.
Shelly Ann's father managed to free himself and called the police who launched a massive search for the teen.
The family's worst fears were realised Monday morning when <span style="font-weight: bold">Shelly Ann's body was found in bushes off the Hatfield Main Road with her throat slashed.</span>
The tragedy has marred proceedings at the Frome Technical High school where the child was a student.
