over the years i have argued that the theoretical construct of the Jamaican political system is as best as it possibly can be. I recall going head to head with Johnny Cakes that Fidelism is not suited to Jamaica...And the soltuion to Jamaica economy was never focas in the hills....
One thing i never mentioned was the root of my idea. It was a speech by Fidel in Jamaica in Montego Bay in the 70's. It was broadcast in Jamaica on the radio and as an excercise in practice of Spanish I had to translate it....before the simultaneous translator.
one thing that Fidel claimed was his admiration for the Jamaican political system.. and the evolutionary path.. also had the Jamaican historical path had been followed in Cuba there would be no need for him or his revolution. This was greeted as i recall by laughter of the crowd.
One of the things that Fidel did admire was that the Africaness of Jamaica. Even in the 70's that African customs had permeated the culture of Jamaica...At this time the Cuban revolution was too focused on a culture that imitated the norms of the European..
The problem is i could never find reference to this speech where Castro had mentioned this. i mentioned it and was called uneducated by the Fidelista apologist. And that since i could not find a valid internet link i was a liar... Well now i do!!!!! Well no one is going to call Joshua a liar now are they ?
Now here is an interview with Manley acknowledging that Fidel my cosuin did make such a statement.
again the issue is not the theoretical construct of the Jamaican poltical system... We have two parties, we have separation of state, civil service, legistlature, poliitcal system...But most importantly we have the concept of a loyal oppostion. the idea that we can disagree but still have the interest of the country at heart. Some one should mention this to Crawford and the Lady....
