Everton Henry has been a single father for about 10 years. Although at times, he had no job, with the help of family members he managed to put his daughter, Sherice, through primary school. Now, he's facing perhaps his biggest challenge ever.
Henry told THE STAR that his daughter was successful in the recent GSAT exams and secured a place at the prestigious St Hilda's High School in St Ann. The resident of Fellowship Hall in St Mary, however, told THE STAR that he cannot single-handedly afford to send her through high school.

In a bold and unselfish move, Henry sent a text message to THE STAR's text mania, pleading for help for his only child. When THE STAR contacted him, he explained that he has cared for his daughter alone since she was a little over one-year-old and he and her mother split up. While admitting that he receives help from his brother and his mother, who often cooks for Sherice, he is alone for the most part.
He told THE STAR, "She's very bright ennuh, and I don't want to stifle her future." Henry told THE STAR that his daughter scored 80s and 90s in GSAT and was the top girl at the Ramble Primary School. He is afraid that without help, he will be unable to send her to school.
She's brilliant
Henry said he has been without a job for the last two months. He told THE STAR that he does painting and mason work and is willing to work in order to send his child through school. "If anybody can help me, in any way they can, whether wid a work or wid her schooling, I would be very happy. I just don't want to stop her from school. She do well in school. She's brilliant."
Sherice will have to travel daily to Brown's Town in St Ann and Henry said this will cost about $700 daily. He said he cannot afford the fee it requires for her to live on campus.
When THE STAR spoke to the well-mannered and well-spoken 11-year-old, she shared her GSAT grades. She told THE STAR that she received 89 in math, 88 in science, 92 in communication task, 86 in language arts and 81 in social studies. She also said St Hilda's was her school of choice as she "loves the school uniform and the way they dress".
