A tense atmosphere is persisting at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) on Tuesday as rumblings of financial impropriety at the administrative level grow louder.
Dr. Paul Ivey's tenure as President of the College is on the line and RJR News has learnt that other staff members at the Portland College could be implicated as fraud investigations at the school deepen.
Investigators from the Fraud Squad reportedly collected several documents and computer files from the administrative offices at the institution Tuesday.
The investigation was instigated by concerns about the unauthorized expenditure of college funds.
In a statement Monday night, the Academic Staff Association at CASE said at a meeting of the Board of Management on Friday, a recommendation was made for Dr. Ivey's services to be terminated with immediate effect.
However, when RJR News contacted Dr. Ivey Monday night he said he was still employed to CASE.
He confirmed being in attendance at Friday's meeting but declined to comment on discussions regarding his future as President.
RJR News has learnt that Dr. Ivey was only allowed back on to the campus Tuesday morning after he was searched by a new security detail which replaced the old security personnel overnight.
According to Fazel Huie, President of the Academic Staff Association at CASE, questions have been raised regarding Dr. Ivey's management of the College.
He has also had a rocky relationship with the academic staff at CASE.
The latest face-off occurred in May when employees staged a sit-in.
The lecturers were said to be dissatisfied with the management of the College under Dr. Ivey.
At that time, the Academic Staff Association complained of members being victimised with regard to promotions and appointments as well as attempts to carry out unfair dismissals.
The Association also highlighted what it said was the failure of the College to fulfil its mandate and a breakdown in the system of securing and protecting the institution's assets.
A meeting is to be held Wednesday involving administrative staff where the future of the President is expected to be discussed.
