Businessman charged with incest appears in court
Tuesday, 05 January 2010
The preliminary inquiry involving a prominent Kingston businessman charged with incest last February continued Tuesday in the Half Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court.
Tuesday's proceedings saw the testimony of the arresting officer.
The officer told the court that on February 21 last year the son of the accused reported to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) that his father was molesting his sister who was 12-years-old at the time.
The officer stated that after investigations by CISOCA, the businessman was arrested and charged with five counts of incest and two counts of indecent assault.
The arresting officer's testimony follows that of the alleged victim and the son of the accused.
Before she could rule on the matter, presiding judge Justice Anne-Marie Nembhard was asked for an adjournment by defense attorney Vincent Wellesley as person who would post bail for the accused was not in court.
If the judge deems there to be a Prima-Facie case against the businessman he would be re-arrested and put on trial in the Home Circuit Court in April.
The businessman, who has commercial interests in Kingston, St. Catherine, Clarendon and Manchester is expected to hear his fate this Friday at 2 pm.
