When family members found 22-month-old Jamisa Poitier dead on the sofa bed where she slept, the child's mouth was full of blood and four of her teeth were strewn nearby, detectives said.
Two months after the child's slaying, Broward Sheriff's detectives on Wednesday charged her mother's boyfriend with first-degree murder in the beating death.
Ronald Deliard, 22, had been babysitting the child on Sept. 4 when she was killed while her mother spent time at a neighborhood convenience store, detectives said.
Deliard was being held in the Broward County Mail Jail Wednesday evening without bond. He has been jailed since Sept. 7 on unrelated charges.

Detectives think that early on Sept. 4 Deliard apparently had become outraged when the child wet the bed, and he sent angry text messages to his girlfriend, Shari Morris, demanding she come get the crying child, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dani Moschella.
Hours earlier, Deliard also had grown angry after learning that Morris had been in contact with the child's father, who had just been released from state prison and had never seen the child, Moschella said.
Morris returned to her home in the 4200 block of Northwest 34th Way at about 3 a.m., saw her daughter in bed and assumed she was asleep, detectives said.
Five hours later, the child's 6-year-old brother discovered that she wasn't breathing, detectives said.
The Broward Medical Examiner's Office determined the child died between 1 and 3 a.m. that morning.
Jamisa would have turned 2 years old this Monday.
