Jamaican faces life in the US
A Jamaican National is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole if he is convicted for stabbing a man to death in Cleveland, USA, according to a report in the Chronicle Online.
THE STAR understands that on Friday prosecutors agreed to drop murder charges against the man's alleged girlfriend Lydia Nord in exchange for her testimony against him. Nord is a member of the family that founded the multinational entity, Nordson Corporation.
The Jamaican, 33-year-old Clifton 'Leo' Robinson is accused of stabbing 25-year-old Kevin Ghee twice in the chest on October 17, outside a nightclub in Flats district.
The prosecution is alleging that Robinson stabbed Ghee after being punched in the face through the window of a vehicle driven by Nord. Witnesses say the altercation started after Robinson made an obscene comment about Ghee's mother.
THE STAR understands that Robinson has also been charged with felonious assault after he allegedly stabbed a friend of Ghee's, Dorian Williams, in the face as she tried to stop Nord's vehicle from leaving the scene.
October 24 is the date set for Robinson's trial to begin.
Meanwhile, 31-year-old Nord pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony counts of obstructing justice. The charges carry a possible penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, Kevin Filiatraut, said prosecutors will ask that Nord serve prison time. He explained that if she fails to fulfil obligations of the plea, charges including murder and aggravated murder could be refiled against her in connection with the killing.
