Up until yesterday, I was doing nothing for Christmas eve other than singing with the choir for our Midnight Mass. After all, Mr Witchy is Jewish, and so is all of my family, so... shrug
Last night, we were at my friend, Maria's, house, and she invited us to her 'quiet family Christmas eve' - the traditional Italian Christmas eve with the feast of seven fishes, etc. I accepted the offer, reminding her that I'd have to leave at 11:30pm to go to church for Midnight Mass.
This morning, at the 10:30am Mass, our Choir Director/Organist told us that it had been decided that we'd do half an hour of carol singing before the Midnight Mass... so we had to be at the church at 11:00pm (half an hour early to get ready).
And... while I was still at Mass (Father Kilcarr talked forever and chatted up an entire half hour sermon - forget about a 20-minute homily!), my cell phone vibrated... it was Maria texting me to find out if Mass wasn't over yet... and if so, could I drop by her house. I texted back (thank heaven for choir lofts being out of sight and mind of one's priests!) that we were not even finished Holy Communion yet... sigh
Turns out that Maria wants us all to come to her house Christmas eve about 9:00pm... so things will just be winding up by the time I must leave at 11:00pm. sigh
I'll miss a lot of the food, too... And by the time Midnight Mass is over with - about 1:00am - Maria and her family will be in their beds asleep.
The only good thing about this schedule is that at least I can sleep in on Christmas Day, since I have no kids.
How did my Christmas eve go from doing nothing whatsoever to being too busy for me to keep on schedule???
