After breaking up with lover ... Woman sets self on fire

An American woman who reportedly set herself on fire while staying at a hotel in Falmouth, Trelawny, yesterday, may be charged police said last night.
The name of the woman, believed to be in her mid-50s, is being withheld pending further investigation.
According to reports, about 1 p.m. yesterday, the woman contacted her much younger Jamaican male companion and allegedly told him she was going to end their relationship by setting herself on fire.
It is alleged the two, prior to yesterday, had an argument and the US citizen decided she had no further interest in continuing their relationship.
Her partner whose identification is also being withheld, thought she was up to something crazy and reportedly rushed to her aid to try and prevent any incidents.
It is understood that upon reaching the room in which she was staying, the man saw smoke coming from inside. A quick rescue attempt was conducted and the woman was removed from the room and then rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
Information reaching THE STAR is that the woman, who reportedly lives in New York, received 50 per cent burns to her body and a few items within the room also caught fire from the blaze.
The Falmouth police told our news team that the matter is being investigated thoroughly to see if any criminal lines were crossed.
A police officer told THE STAR, "All we have at this point is that there was a domestic dispute which led to the woman resorting to that act."
