A convicted armed robber, 34-yr-old William Lecuyer, an inmate in NJ, with only 5 more years to go before his scheduled 2017 release, has been on a starvation protest against unfair punishment for something he says he didn't do last year - refusing to provide a drug test urine sample. He admits to not being a model prisoner, but even the prison administrators admit that he's no a bad prisoner, either.
Lecuyer admits that he's done every other infraction except this one - and earned every punishment - except this one - that he's been accused of/received in prison. But, he insists that he never refused to provide the urine specimen. He remains adamant that he has been and remained clean and sober since his imprisonment, and that's his main sticking point: that he HAS been clean and sober, and that he's been treated very unfairly.
And therefore, he has not eaten for a year. Yep. A year. His life in in grave jeopardy, yet he still won't eat.
Lecuyer refuses to eat until the prison allows him and his attorney access to the logs that will prove him correct... that he could not provide the urine sample (not that he refused to provide it, but that he was unable to provide it) because no guard came by for hours to collect it... and he could not hold his bladder any longer and had to void (urinate)... so when the gurad finally did come, Lecuyer was unable to provide urine, having already urinated. He says he offered to provide a sample if they'd give him coffee and/or water to drink. But they refused.
The entire crux of this standoff is whether or not any guard(s) actually did come to his cell, or were actually in his block (where he could have called for them), within the 2-hour period in question, when Lecuyer was supposed to provide his urine specimen to a guard. Lecuyer says not. The prison says otherwise BUT refuses to back this up by providing access to anyone - including the State of NJ - to their logs that would prove or disprove, the reality of the situation, once and for all.
