Security at Music Events and Clubs

I am just curious. What are standard practices for security at music events and nightclubs in Jamaica and at reggae events in the US and Canada? I haven't been in ages but I do remember at some events there were metal detectors and bags were searched. I have seen security guards frisk some of the guys at nightclubs in Montreal, especially if they try to come in with big coats.
