So British failed...insights?

Everywhere the British tried to stamp out the original culture, even the Caribbean where names were changed and certain cultural practices were banned, they failed. Look at my threads in religion about the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.

Is this due the resilience of the human spirit or other reasons? I mean it is interesting that the appeal of African traditions continued for so long despite opposition.

I think they were doomed to fail because they did not welcome the indigenous people into their society after banning their own cultures. They had a choice; they could leave the native peoples in their own state, or they could give them a whole new culture and accept them into their lives.

I think you have a point. Even for Black people like me who grow up in predominantly White communities, it is the discrimination that makes us seek our routes. If you notice, some of the light skinned Jamaicans who were given a privileged position have a very White minded outlook. I sad some not all.
